This MK3 to MK3S upgrade focuses only on the new Extruder design. Other parts of the printer can differ from yours, but there is no need to upgrade them.
In case of self printing the parts a checklist with parts are helpful. If you have disassambled the Printer and then you recognize one part is missing , well…..
Maybe I’m alone in this confusion but I purchased a MK3S upgrade kit and self-printed the parts. I also have the MMU2. The WARNING note above says that the MK3S MMU2S has different parts than the Single Material MK3S, but for those like me who worried I printed all the wrong parts, there are only four small parts that are different for the MMU2S variety: adapter-printer-mmu2s, extruder-idler-mmu2s, IR-sensor-holder-mmu2s, and IR-sensor-cover-mmu2s. Those files can be found over at https://www.prusa3d.com/prusa-i3-printable-parts/ under “Original Prusa i3 MK3/S or MK2.5/S MMU2S upgrade“ alongside all the other parts to print an MMU2S unit and the filament buffer.
All the times I saw the words “'''MMU2S package contains the MK3S/MK2.5S upgrade”''' it made me think that ordering and printing the MK3S upgrade kit/parts would be what I needed to be compatible with my MMU2S. I understand now and realize it’s a complex issue, but perhaps some extra clarity is possible here.
The issue is that unless you get a voucher for an upgrade kit, there’s no easy way to upgrade your MK3-MMU2 into a MK3S-MMU2S since the standard MK3 to MK3S kit does not include the MMU-friendly parts, and one part is even factory-supplied in the MMU2S kit (and the upgrade kit from vouchers, which I happen to not be eligible for because I bought my MMU2 second-hand).
That is correct, only a few parts related to the filament sensor mechanism are different. Buyers of the MMU2S package don’t have to buy the MK3S upgrade. We’ll see if we can modify the instructions.
