The "Distance between the tip of the nozzle and the bed surface has not been set yet" error message occurs after you successfully finish all of the calibration parts, except the First layer calibration.

What to do:

  1. If the previous calibration was successfully finished, then just perform the First layer calibration. That can be done through the LCD Menu -> Calibration -> First layer cal.
  2. Choose the filament you want to use for this calibration, we strongly suggest using PLA.
  3. Fully finish the First Layer Calibration (i3) at least once and you are good to go.
Small adjustments can be later applied through the Live Z adjust option, even while printing. This menu can be entered only when printing the first 3 layers, just press the Knob -> Live adjust Z and then you can tune it.

Hello. Each printer has its own value for the Z offset. It's up to the user to find it with the first layer calibration.

Hi, just finished the assembly of my new i3 MK3S. Running the self-test wizard. Everything good until I get to the first layer calibration. The printer probes the first 3 points across the front with no problems. When it gets to the 4 point it stops. The message "some problem encountered. Z-levelling enforced ... " Please advise.

This has happened to me. I ran run all diagnostics tests, machine says it's ok. I tried to run the first layer calibration, and the machine now has the "Distance between tip of nozzel and bed surface..." message is looping, and I can't make it stop to try and calibrate the machine, or do anything else.

Hello, you just have to finish the first layer calibration to get rid of this message. Follow the instructions in your handbook.

I am having the same problem as Wifey Mcwifeface. The instructions in the handbook say to launch the calibration from the main menu, but I can't get to the main menu because I can't get out of the error message. When I click the X, it thinks for a moment then takes me back to the error message.

Hello. Could it be that the height of the PINDA probe should be adjusted?
